Clotho

CLOTHO, us, Gr. Κλωθὼ, ους, ( Tab. I.) die erste von den dreyen Parcen, welche den Namen nach einigen von κλώζω, ich schreye, hat, und soll daher so viel, als Herausrufung heißen, Fulgent Mythol. lib. I. c. 7. welche Ableitung aber billigst verworfen wird. Muncker. ad eumd. l. c. Andere leiten ihn daher von κλωθω, ich spinne, drehe um, wälze herum, her, weil alles dem Drehen, (τῆ κλώσει) der Fäden gleich sey, und also auch eins auf das anderesfolge, Phurnut. de N.D. c. 13. oder auch, weil sie das gegenwärtige vollendet, zu Stande bringt, (κλώθει), was ihres Amtes ist. Auctor de Mundo ap. Nat. Com. lib. III. c. 6. Wenigstens wird ihr insonderheit die Führung der gegenwärtigen Dinge zugeschrieben, Plato de Rep. L. X. p. 763. Appuleius ap. Becmann Orig. L. L. in Parco, s. p. 820. und soll sie sonst den Rocken halten, dahingegen die Lachesis den Faden des menschlichen Lebens spinnet, und Atropos ihn abschneidet. Gyrald. Synt. VI. p. 208. Nach einer sehr spitzfindigen philosophischen Meynung soll sie, wie Atropos in dem Sonnenkreise sitzt, und den ersten Samen des Lebens über die Erde ausbreitet, ihren Sitz in der Sphäre des Mondes haben, und diesen ewigen Samen verknüpfen.
