Byzas

BYZAS, antis, ( Tab. XI.) Neptuns und der Kroessa, einer Tochter der Ino, Sohn, erbauete die Stadt Byzanz, und gab ihr von sich den Namen. Steph. Byz. in Βυζάντιον. Er regierete auch noch daselbst und in der umliegenden Gegend, als die Argonauten nach Kolchis giengen. Diod. Sic. l. IV. c. 50. p. 175. Es wird aber sonst auch für den Erbauer besagter Stadt Byzes, ein Megarenser angegeben, welcherzuerst eine Colonie seiner Landesleute dahin geführet haben soll. Gyllius Topogr. Constantinop. lib. I. c. 1.
