HIPPOMĔNES, is, Gr. Ἱππομένης, εος, ( Tab. XI.) des Makareus oder Magareus und der Merope Sohn, und Gemahl der Atalanta, der aber endlich, sammt dieser, in einen Löwen verwandelt wurde. Apollod. lib. III. c. 9. §. ult. Ovid. Metam. X. v. 507. & Hygin Fab. 185. Man will ihn noch auf einer Gemme sehen, wo ein junger Mensch mit einem Mantel über seiner linken Schulter und einer brennenden Fackel in dem Arme vor einem angezündeten Altare steht, auf den er einige Aepfel gelegt zu haben scheint. Hinter ihm steht ein kleines Bild auf einer Säule, welches man für den Hymenäus hält. Maffei gem. ant T. IV. t. 22. p. 33. Sieh Atalanta, des Schöneus Tochter.
