CERCỸON, ŏnis, (⇒ Tab. XIII.) Vulcans, Hygin. Fab. 38. oder, nach andern, Neptuns Sohn, Gellius N. A. lib. XV. c. 21. ließ seine Tochter Alope hinrichten, deren Sohn aber, welchen sie mit dem Neptun gezeuget hatte, wegwerfen. Hygin. Fab. 187. & Pausan. Att. c. 39. p. 72. Er hatte die Gewohnheit, alle Fremden, die ihm aufstießen, zu nöthigen, mit ihm zu ringen, und die er überwand, hinzurichten, Diod. Sic. lib. IV. c. 61. p. 182. wie denn auch nicht weit von seiner Tochter Grabhügel noch lange nachher ein Ort Cercyons Kampfplatz hieß. Paus. l. c. p. 73. Endlich bezahlete ihm Theseus seiner Grausamkeit nach und richtete ihn wiederum hin. Hygin. Fab. 38. & 187. Ovid. Metam. lib. VII. v. 439.
